Summary:

The Education Fellow will learn about and support the daily essential operations of a not-for-profit Education team of 15 full-time staff, 40+ Teaching Artists, and various communities of program participants, reporting to the Education Coordinator, Operations and Curriculum Resources Manager. The Fellow will be trained to use QuickBooks Time, Tessitura, Form Assembly, Google Admin, Microsoft applications, and other platforms, in order to execute financial operations, develop project management skills, and communicate effectively. The Education Fellow will also assist with the coordination and execution of the Education team’s programming, which could include facilitation, event production, curriculum planning, and partnership management. After completing the Education Fellowship, we expect that the Fellow will be ready for a wide variety of early career paths, such as education or administrative positions within cultural organizations and/or entry-level operational roles. This position is primarily in-person with occasional opportunities for remote work.  

Job Responsibilities:

55% (~22 hours per week) - Daily operations of department 

  • Assist Education Coordinator, Operations with department administrative tasks including inventory maintenance, supply ordering, space reservations, calendar management, technical support, and other duties as assigned   
  • Work closely with staff to draft and send communications, such as minutes at Education Staff meetings, weekly events memos, public newsletters, and Committee materials  
  • Learn an overview of all essential financial processes such as reimbursements, payment requests, expense tracking, credit card reconciliations, and petty cash in order to assist the Education Coordinator, Operations and ensure smooth and quick turn-around times   
  • Work with different staff members to ensure the documentation and assessment of Education programs. This can include photo archive management, updating webpages to ensure accurate information, and data collection/entry
  • Support in-person Education programs including but not limited to Community Partnership Residencies, Audience Engagement events, and Career Training workshops 
  • Liaise with staff in other departments such as Finance, Marketing, Development, and Management for collaborative projects and assignments   

30% (~10 hours per week) – Long term projects 

  • Assist program staff in coordinating Theatre Plus, Roundabout Youth Ensemble, TWDP productions, and other programs  
  • Learn Roundabout’s teaching framework as it applies to crafting lesson plans and facilitation in collaboration with Teaching Artists  
  • Shadow staff members producing events in order to become an assistant producer for events such as Hidden Career Path Day and the Theatrical Teaching Institute  
  • Work with the Curriculum Resources Manager to gain insight into development of educational materials and digital content for students and audiences
  • Train in partnership management and become the point of contact for a partner school  
  • Learn about program evaluation practices and contribute to the department’s data management processes

10% (~16 hours per month) – Mentoring and professional development/training events 

  • Meeting with an interdepartmental mentor once every two months 
  • Alumni events 
  • Meet & greets with other theatre companies and their workforce program cohorts 
  • Observe Teaching Artists in workshops and as facilitators for School residencies, Roundabout Youth Ensemble, and more programming  
  • Participate in internal professional development events & activities including monthly arts education trainings and annual staff retreats   
  • Participate in sponsored external professional development events and activities including attendance at annual New York City Arts in Education Roundtable Face to Face conference  

5% (~8 hours per month) – Weekly seminars and workshops 

  • Meet + Q&A with all Senior Staff at Roundabout 
  • Professional skills workshops such as Planning a Season, Production Budgets, Professional Organizations for Arts Administrators, Resume Review & Interview Practice, etc. 

What You Bring to the Education Department:

  • Digital literacy and detail-oriented clerical skills (i.e. using office equipment and tools such as computers and document management systems, basic data entry, scheduling meetings)  
  • High proficiency in both verbal and written communication (i.e. must be comfortable with picking up the phone, drafting and sending emails, and presenting)  
  • Must be able to both work at a desk for long periods of time, navigate various spaces, and move around for long periods of time with reasonable accommodation  
  • Can lift up to 25 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation  
  • Aptitude for organization and problem solving  
  • A love for collaboration, interest in serving diverse communities, and enthusiasm in providing exceptional customer service    
  • A willingness and excitement to try new things, be proactive, and gain skills in real-time on the job  
  • Ability to commute to Times Square/Midtown, as well as schools, libraries, and other theatre venues in other NYC boroughs
